Star Wars Session 4: Holding the Bridge
It’s been a week since Havok Squad left Alakine. Cook spends his time cooking out of the Stargazer, since no one can stop him. This does cause a lot of clones to hang out in the hanger bay, but no one’s stopped him yet. 28 has submitted a new requisition request for a new scope for his gun. More than one, after filling out the same form 5 times, they decided to just give him one. 28 does also try helping out Cook with the little blossoming restaurant. Rat actually doesn’t mind the clones coming in and out of his ship. He recognizes that he isn’t super trusted amongst the clones and seeks to repair that. He plays space chess with some of the other guys and acting as normal as he possibly can. This does improve his relationship with the clones, Cook is willing to speak with him more, and the crew is willing to trust him a bit.
Havok Squad has received two replacements for Doc and Tinny. Doc is currently in the hospital, he’ll probably be fine but it’ll take him a few months. Cook and 28 take CT-8023 and CT-1778 on a tour throughout the starship, introducing them to the barracks and meet the squad. CT-8023 is a demolitionist and CT-1778 is a normal trooper but helps CT-8023 with his explosions.
Avalanche Company meetup to discuss the current mission. Tycho and 00 are moving the clones to another world being plagued by separatists. The planet is called Cort and is a humid, wet jungle toxic to anyone not native to the area. The natives are the ones causing most of the issues. The reason the separatists and the republic are interested in it is because of the precious materials mined there. The mission is to assault a separatist oil rig that’s been converted into an air field. Avalanche will be attacking from the air as well as on the ground while the AT-TEs make their way onto the oil rig.
The Mission: Phase 1
Rat does some air recon, finding some short range guns setup on the rig. He’s able to dispatch these, destroying the ammo and one of the guns. Meanwhile, the clones hit some turbulence as they hit a rough landing on the way down. 28 and Cook are fine, however many of the other clones pass out or fall over. The doors are stuck shut and smoke begins to fill the ship. 28 is able to blast the door open, only to realize that they’ve crashlanded right in the middle of the firefighting. They’re pinned down, the rest of Avalanche Squad using their ship as cover as the enemies get closer. After 28 attempts to stick his head out to get a lay of the land, he narrowly avoids getting his head shot in. They call for air support from Rat, who is able to dispatch another gun.
Cook and the rest of the group are able to rush out into the fray, dodging all blaster fire deftly weaving their way through combat. Rat gleefully guns down other starships and droids. They’re making clean work of these stupid B-1s as Cook and the boys are lobbing explosives and unloading their rifles into them, while 28 takes specific pot shots at more important looking hostiles. Rat is doing complex maneuvers to destroy the various flying droids. Before their reign of terror can continue, a sniper takes a shot at 28 in the chest, and large swarms of B-1s attack Cook dealing large amounts of damage to both. They’re able to hold for now, but the B-1s are quickly beginning to pile up as the clones begin falling back. Rat sees what’s going on, doubling back to add some air support. He targets a fallen ship causing a large explosion in the middle of the B-1 horde. Unfortunately, B-2s begin entering the battlefield, some with odd green paint and weird looking arms.
Cook stands on business, shooting dead several B-1s nearby holding them back for just a little bit longer. 28 is focused on killing the sniper that wounded him, though missing his shot. The green B-2 shoots off an explosive at a crowd of clones, engulfing them in a cloud of gas dissolving the filters inside their helmets. Medics attempt grabbing some of the survivors, but they aren’t long for life as they begin breathing in the toxic gas. 28 points out the sniper to Rat who’s able to focus fire on them while he can aim for the green B-2. They’re able to hold the line, but just barely, as the enemy’s firepower keeps ramping up. More troopers go down from the chem launcher, but they’re still able to hold the line as the AT-TEs finally cross the bridge as well as Alkali Squadron for backup. They begin hearing reports of the other bridge falling as the 11th Company were decimated at the other bridge ending in a firey explosion sending the bridge into the bay.
The Mission: Phase 2
Phase 1 is completed. About a quarter of the company has been killed or injured. The new guys are alright though, not quite shiny anymore. The squad takes a bit to rest up before the next phase begins. Frost commands them forward and they march through the floating city gunning down all droids they come across and stunning any living people without weapons. The clones surround the airfield and await further instructions. It’s quiet. But not exactly too quiet. It’s just odd. Havok squad gets sent to scout forward and see what happens to the hostiles. They enter some of the facility’s buildings, finding the doors unlocked. Still no hostiles, droids or otherwise.
They boys begin stealthing their way, hearing an echoing voice somewhere deep in the facility. They overhear a conversation between an alien speaking an unknown language and a droid speaking basic. The droid is unimpressed with the person’s performance, saying that mistakes and excuses will not be tolerated. The droid orders the person dead and for another droid to send off a message for reinforcements. The clones take the opportunity to move in, throwing three grenades and dispatching the droids immediately and halting the request for reinforcements. Cook attempts to download as many files from their computers as possible, but fails and instead calls a B-3 droid who says “You… are clones….” Cook desperately searches for the end call button and eventually finds it. They receive a message from said droid who says “You have been acknowledged. - T-4N7HR4X”
