Terrafirma Rapid Fire Fun Facts
Here is an article to share smaller bite sized facts about the world. A collection of things that may be expanded on in a future post, or things that are too small to stand on their own.
Tabaxi Naming Conventions
Tabaxi generally have up to 3 names. First is their given name, which is usually aspirational and is only really used by a person’s close family and in professional/official settings. Usually by parents, siblings, teachers, or bosses.
The second is their chosen name, which often changes throughout their life. It may describe their passions, prominent personality traits, or their own aspirations for themselves. This is usually what would be used in casual conversation or by friends and more distant family.
The final type is the most uncommon and is the family name. It is used to denote what famous house or noble family a person belongs to, so it isn’t used by the majority of regular people. A person with a family name wouldn’t usually go by that, but those with less than stellar abilities from houses with a high reputation, may go by it as leverage.
Fall of J’arr
After The Rupture and the fall of the Isle of Arkanna, the infamous pirate city J’arr has fallen out of puplic favor. It was once what kept pirates in line, it gave them a code of conduct to adhere to or else they would be shunned from the city and lose a vital place to lie low. In the modern day, pirates are more vicious and corrupt than ever.
Transitioning
Stashikatt is the patron for trans people, being the god of shapeshifting. The first step in a newly trans person’s transition is usually to find an acolyte of Stashikatt, if they wish to physically transition.
Dahlanian Priest Rotations
Dahlanian head priests rotate through 4 different chapels, staying at one for a year and then moving on to the next. This is to ensure that they are able to see more of the world and are still able to have a full understanding of the faith. It is also to ensure that no one priest gains too much power or influence, while still being a familiar presence to the people of the towns. If a priest gains too much power, even if they do not abuse it, they will not allowed to practice at the relevant church for 7 years. If they are found to gain power and abuse it, they will not be allowed to practice the faith in any official capacity.
Marriage, Through a Dahlanian Perspective
Marriages, as dictated by Dahlanian doctrine, are compromised of 3 aspects:
-
A list of promises from one person to another. This list is legally binding and a divorce may occur if an individual does not make good on these promises. This is why it is encouraged for partners in marriage to consistently rewrite and polish their contracts to each other as things change in their life.
-
Full and enthusiastic consent from all parties involved. Marriages between multiple partners for example are allowed as long as all current members of the marriage are able to provide written consent. Generally, all partners of a potential marriage also meet with a Dahanian priest several times leading to the formal signing of the contracts. This is to ensure that nothing is being hidden and to mitigate instances of abuse.
-
A physical reminder of the promises. This could be almost anything. The most common version of this is a piece of jewelry or accessory a married partnership wears at all times. But this may be impractical for some couples. So a Reminder Sword or armor piece may be specially created. Many partnerships will buy or build their first home together as their reminder. Some partnerships adopt a pet together, but this may become awkward when that pet inevitably dies. The only reminder object not permitted is a child.
